Believe me, there were moments that I wanted to give up, but I rode fueled with thoughts and memories of the hundreds of people that I have known over the years who have been infected and affected by HIV/AIDS and other life threatening illnesses, many who have died and many who are still fighting the battle.
I rode for a close friend who was diagnosed with brain cancer just days before I left for Montreal and died within an hour of my crossing the finish line. I rode with the thoughts of my brother whose Multiple Sclerosis is rapidly advancing. I rode for a lifelong friend, a husband and young grandfather of 3, diagnosed with Frontal Lobe Dementia.
But mostly, I rode for the future of my 4 year old grandson, Noah, and my thoughts for his future and the future of his children with hopes for a healthy future. This year I have been blessed with a 2nd grandson, Nathan, who will also be in my thoughts during the ride.
One of the most rewarding and meaningful aspects of my involvement was hearing from so many riders that my fundraising success has motivated them to return in 2010 with a renewed and increased commitment to increase their fund raising commitments.
Well I too have a renewed my commitment. Matching last year's achievement is my 1st goal. I can ONLY do this with the support of partners like you. My 2nd goal is to surpass last year's goal. Again, it is ONLY something we can do together.
I will ride with pride knowing that I have partners who care and are determined to help us surpass the challenge.
